Gobe-mouche du Senegal or Flycatcher by Martinet 1770
This print is by Francois Nicolas Martinet from the Comte de Buffon’s superb work Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux, published in Paris from 1770 to 1783.
This work was the most famous & comprehensive ornithological work of the 18th century, for which Martinet, the foremost bird artist of his day, provided most of the bird illustrations.
The prints date from 1770 and are fine original hand-coloured copper engravings.
The paper is thick creamy chain-lined handmade paper with strong plate marks. The brilliant and artistic hand-colouring is almost as fresh as the day it was painted.
Size: 9in x 12.5in (22cm x 30cm).
Condition: The print is in excellent condition – please inspect the image carefully as it is very accurate.
