4 Birds of Western Africa by W Swainson 1837
These hand-coloured engravings are from William Swainson’s Birds of Western Africa from The Naturalist’s Library series edited by Sir William Jardine, Bart. Published by WH Lizars of Edinburgh 1837.
The birds illustrated here are Crimson-eared Bengaly, Red-collared Bengaly, Red-winged Bengaly & Yellow-rumped Bull-finch.
Jardine made natural history available to all levels of Victorian society by editing and issuing the hugely popular forty volumes of The Naturalist’s Library (1833-1843).
This work was published in two parts, being Volumes XI & XII of the Naturalist’s Library series.
Size: 6.75in x 4.25in (17cm x 11cm).
Condition: The prints are in excellent condition on thick, high quality paper. Please inspect the images carefully
