3 prints of birds of prey eggs by Hewitson 1856
These hand-coloured engravings of the eggs of birds of prey are from the Coloured Illustrations of the Eggs of British Birds accompanied with descriptions of the Eggs and Nests by William C Hewitson, published by Jan Van Voorst, London, 1856.
The prints show the eggs of: Hobby and Red-footed Falcon; Merlin & Kestrel; Sparrow-hawk or Accipiter Nisus.
William Chapman Hewitson was a British naturalist, born on 9 January 1806 in Newcastle upon Tyne. A wealthy collector, Hewitson was particularly devoted to the Coleoptera and the Lepidoptera and also to bird’s nests and eggs. He was also an accomplished scientific illustrator.

Condition: The prints are in excellent condition – please inspect the image carefully as they are very accurate.
