These original hand-coloured copper-plate engravings of Moths – Lepidoptera are from An Exposition of English Insects by Moses Harris. Printed for the author by Messrs Robson & Co London 1776.
The prints are based on illustrations by the British entomologist and engraver Moses Harris (1730-1788) and feature insects including flies, bees, dragonflies and moths accurately drawn and highly finished in colours from nature.
Harris also authored the text accompanying each print and was the artist and engraver for the insect prints in this series.
