This original antique woodblock hand-coloured print is from History of the Fishes of the British Islands by Jonathan Couch. Published in 1877.
This work is regarded as one of the fundamental contributions to British ichthyology.
The fishes featured in this lot are: Hake, Haddock, Whiting and Torsk.
The woodblocks were prepared by AF Lydon and Benjamin Fawcett printed the plates. Local artists from Polperro in Cornwall finished the colouring by hand.
