This double page chromolithograph is from Flore de Serres et des Jardins de l’Europe (Flowers of the Greenhouses and Gardens of Europe) by Louis van Houtte and Charles Lemaire, 1867.

These superbly illustrated plates were enhanced with gum Arabic and contain a fabulous selection of plants.

The work is remarkable for the level of colour-printing craftmanship displayed by the Belgian lithographers Severeyns, Stroobant, and De Pannemaker.
