4 Hummingbird prints by Jardine & WH Lizars 1833
These hand-coloured engravings of Humming Birds are from The Natural History of Humming Birds Part 2 of The Naturalist’s Library by Sir William Jardine, Bart and engraved by WH Lizars, Edinburgh 1833.
These engraving are from the first edition. The humming birds illustrated are Purple Hummingbird, Double Crested Hummingbird, Evening Hummingbird & Sapphire Throated Hummingbird.
Jardine made natural history available to all levels of Victorian society by editing and issuing the hugely popular forty volumes of The Naturalist’s Library (1833-1843).
The Natural History of Humming Birds was issued in two parts, being Volumes VI & VII of The Naturalist?s Library series. Many of the hummingbirds illustrated in this work were of life size.
Each print measures approximately 4in x 6.5in (10cm x 15.5cm)
Condition: The prints are in excellent condition on thick, high quality paper. Please inspect the images carefully
