The horses illustrated are Blue Gown, Pretender, Ayrshire and Merry Hampton.
Blue Gown won the Derby Stakes at Epsom & the Gold Cup at Ascot 1868. By Beadsman out of Bas Bleu – Trained by Porter – Ridden by John Wells.
Pretender was the winner of the 2000 Guineas Stakes at Newmarket and the Derby Stakes at Epsom 1869. By Adventurer out of Ferina. Trained by Dawson….Ridden by J Osborne.
