5 engravings of Lemurs from 1811
These copperplate engravings are from The Natural History of Quadrupeds, and Cetaceous Animals by various authors. Published by Brightly and Co, Bungay 1811.
The full title of this work is: The Natural History of Quadrupeds, and Cetaceous Animals from the works of the best authors, antient and modern, embellished with numerous plates accurately coloured from nature.
The prints included in this lot are: Indri; Ring Tail Lemur and Murine Lemur; Loris and Slow Lemur; Tarsier and Wooly Lemur; Long-fingered Lemur and Heart Marked Lemur.
Of particular note are the coloured engravings which are extraordinarily beautiful and in good condition. A rare and curious work with some images taken from George Shaw’s General Zoology and drawn by FP Nodder.
