This original hand-coloured lithograph is from British Butterflies and their Transformations, arranged and illustrated by H.N. Humphreys, with descriptions by J. O. Westwood. Published in London 1841.

The print illustrates the following butterfly species, including their caterpillar and chrysalis, and featured plants:1. Melitzea Cinxia (the Glanville Fritillary Butterfly). 2. Henry Noel Humphreys (1810?1879), was a British illustrator, naturalist, entomologist, and numismatist. Humphreys, who studied medieval manuscripts in Italy as a young man, became an accomplished scholar in numerous subjects.
