Rare Auricula copperplate engraving from The Compleat Florist by J Duke 1747
This copperplate engraving of Lord Willoughby’s Auricula is from The Compleat Florist by J. Duke, published and sold by J Robinson at the Golden-Lyon, Ludgate, 1747.
We are fortunate to have obtained this rare and wonderful work, only seen on the market a few times since 1950. There are one hundred hand-colored copper engravings in this work, very much in the 18th century style.
The compositions are charming, and the original period hand-colouring is very intense and bold. The plate is inscribed in a wonderful copperplate writing with the season in which it blooms, description and growing habits.
This authentic antique print, now 277 years old, on beautiful chain lined paper, still quite strong and softly aged.
Size: approx 5.5 x 8.5in (14 x 21.5cm)
Condition: The print is in excellent condition – please inspect the image carefully as it is very accurate.
