4 prints of birds of prey eggs by Hewitson 1856
These hand-coloured engravings of the eggs of birds of prey are from the Coloured Illustrations of the Eggs of British Birds accompanied with descriptions of the Eggs and Nests by William C Hewitson, published by Jan Van Voorst, London, 1856.The prints show the eggs of:Griffon Vulture or Vultur Fulvus; Egyptian Vulture – Vultur Percnopterus; Golden Eagle or Aquila Chrysaetos; Golden Eagle and Sea Eagle or Haliaeus Albicilla. William Chapman Hewitson was a British naturalist, born on 9 January 1806 in Newcastle the Coleoptera and the Lepidoptera and also to bird’s nests and eggs. He was also an accomplished scientific illustrator. Size: 8.25in x 5.25in (20cm x 12.5cm)
