This rare etching is plate 183 from Liber Veritatis, published by Francesco Bourlie, Rome 1815, from the original drawing of Claudio di Lorena (aka Claude Lorrain).Plate 183 depicts The Cumaean Sybil conducting Aeneas to the entrance of the Infernal Regions. The view represents an open, bold and hilly country, lighted up by the last gleams of sunset. It is a beautiful black and white etching and aquatint on paper engraved by the Italian artist Ludovico Caracciolo, a landscapist and engraver.
