This hand coloured copperplate engraving is from Complements de Buffon by Rene Lesson. Published by Pourrat Freres, Paris 1838.
Rene Lesson was a French surgeon, naturalist, ornithologist and director of the Rochefort zoological garden. He was second surgeon aboard the Coquille on Duperrey’s scientific expedition from 1822 to 1825.
