These hand coloured engravings are from Edward Donovan’s The Natural History of British Birds, published in 1794-1819 in London and printed by F & C Rivington.
This lot comprises the Eared Grebe, Pin-tail Duck, Golden-eye Duck and Ferruginous Duck.
Edward Donovan was a traveller and amateur naturalist. Born in Cork, Ireland, Donovan was the founder of the London Museum and Institute of Natural History, which contained his extensive natural history collection. This work is highly rated for the artistry and composition of its prints – please note the beauty and intensity of the fine hand colouring.
