These prints are from the first edition of Charles D’Orbigny’s Dictionnaire Universel d’Histoire Naturelle published in 1849 by Renard & Martinet, Paris.
The superb, beautifully hand coloured plates were drawn by some of the leading French artists of the day such as Travies, Oudart and Pretre. This lot comprises engravings from drawing by Edouard Travies and engraved by Fournier.
