This engraving of the White-eyed Ferruginous Duck (Anas Leucophthalmus) is from Johann Conrad Susemihl’s work Teutsche Ornighologie oder Naturgeschicte aller Vogel Teutschlands in naturgetreuen Abbildungen und Beschreibunge . Darmstadt: Herausgeber (1800-17).
The illustrations were drawn and engraved by H. Curtmann, JC Susemihl, E.F Lichthammer, Johann Theodor Susemihl and Erwin Eduard Susemihl. The birds are very large, some life size and the detail of their plumage superbly rendered in these copper engravings. This original hand coloured copper engraving is printed on strong, soft white, wove paper.
