These original antique prints are from A Treatise on the Esculent Funguses of England by Charles Badham. Published by Lovell Reeve & Co, London 1863.
The striking hand-coloured plates were illustrated by the noted mycological artist Anna Maria Hussey. Before this work was published, eating wild fungi was considered to be dangerous and eccentric in England and Badham’s work helped to de-mystify these issues surrounding fungi.
